Review of the Movie Night of the Hunter

Night of the Hunter tells the story of Harry Powell, a murderous con man who thinks he is doing the lords bidding by ridding women of their sinful desires. Harry spends the bulk of the story wooing a widow, Willa, to find out where her late husband hid ten thousand dollars before died. Willa doesn’t know but her two children, John and Pearl, know, and are keeping the secret from Harry.

Rescue Me Season 5 – 5-Alarm Show

I didn’t start this series until the middle of the second season and it blew me away. It is funny, tragic, sexy and gutsy all at once. I have been renting the first season to find out how the characters got to the second season, and it reminded me how much I loved the show since the break between seasons is way too long. By writing episodes and delivering a powerful performance week after week, Denis Leary proves here that he is more than just a comic, but a multi-talented artist. Also, I am very impressed with FX for having the guts to show this series without cutting it up and censoring the tough lives these characters inhabit.

A Review of the Movie Blade Runner

It is the speculative nature of science fiction that separates it from fantasy. Where fantasy can be imagination run wild, science fiction is more steeped in reality and expands or speculates about technology and the places current technology can go. Science fiction, in this regard, very much intends to give the reader or viewer a change in perspective.

Brad Pitt is Not the Hottest Guy in Quentin Tarantino’s Latest

I recently saw the Quentin Tarantino-written and directed film Inglourious Basterds (the bad spelling is Tarantino’s, not mine!) for the first time. It was pretty good, if you don’t mind quite a lot of gory violence.

It’s Complicated Review – I Saw Mamma Kissing Daddy?

An unfortunate number of romantic comedies released in 2009 were neither romantic nor comedic (I’m looking at you, Leap Year), so when It’s Complicated turned out to have ample helpings of both key elements, I was greatly relieved. The film follows Jane (Meryl Streep) as her fling with ex-husband Jake (Alec Baldwin) throws a wrench into her budding romance with Adam, her architect (Steve Martin). It’s brave, in our youth-obsessed culture, to base a romantic comedy around a couple in their fifties, but if anyone could make such a film successful it’s writer/director Nancy Meyers, who brought us The Holiday…
