A List Of The Best Sean Penn Films Of All Time

One actor who has been a dominant force on the awards front in recent years is Sean Penn. It seems that almost any time Penn stars in a film, he is likely to be nominated for an Academy Award. I’m not sure if there is bias toward this actor or if he is just that good.

All About Adventure Movies

Adventure movies have grazed the silver screen since the silent era, yet even then they were filled with on-going sequences of drama and excitement that took you right along for the roller coaster ride of an adventure. The main character (a created protagonist or an actual figure from history) and his loyal companions were always faced with a quest that needed to be made or a challenge that had to be overcome. It wouldn’t be easy.

Hercules in New York (1970)

Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his first starring role in a feature film, plays Hercules, the legendary hero from ancient Greek mythology. Many other body building champions have assumed the role in several low budget European productions but none can compare to the awe inspiring epic that is “Hercules in New York”, a fascinating tale of friendship and loyalty, featuring tear jerking drama, tender romance, wonderful comedic moments and thrilling action to boot. Hercules is fed up living on Mount Olympus and wants to get out and explore Earth below.

Rec Review

Spanish horror film Rec (2007) follows female reporter Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) and cameraman Pablo (Pablo Rosso) as they film for a fictional TV show While You Sleep at a local fire station. Bored and dying for something worth filming, the pair find themselves overjoyed to be included in some action, as the station receives an emergency call to help an elderly lady trapped in an apartment block. However, within minutes of arrival, when the old lady attacks a police man at the scene, it becomes obvious that this is more than just a regular emergency.

The Box

If someone planted a box on your doorstep, and told you that pressing the button on it would make you one million richer, but someone you don’t know somewhere in the world would die what would you do? That’s the basic premise of The Box, starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as married couple Norma and Arthur in 70s Virginia. Norma is a teacher and Arthur works as a scientist at NASA, they have a young son Walter, and lead a typical family life.

The Last Station

A few years before the Russian Revolution Mr. Tolstoy was still alive. Yes that Tolstoy – author of many great tomes including War and Peace. Christopher Plummer plays the lead and, to be honest, so well next to the impeccable Helen Mirren. Real life couple Ann-Marie Duff and James McAvoy round out this extraordinary cast to make a movie that is well worth your time.

The Intriguing Legacy Of James Bond Movies

Even before any of the James Bond movies came out, anyone who remembers their childhood back in the 50’s would have already known of James Bond back then. One would have already been familiar with Dr. No and From Russia With Love.

Adrian Lyne’s Lolita

A long time ago, way back in 1955, Vladimir Nabokov published a scandalous book that remains controversial long after his death. Lolita chronicles the life of a professor, Humbert Humbert, who falls for a 12 year old girl, and shamelessly pursues her. The novel is narrated by Humbert, which probably makes the book all the more controversial, as surely no one wants to read about the mind of a rapist.

Silent Running (1971)

There are very few things that made me cry as a child (I was one of those kids). But there is one movie, one Sci-Fi movie, that did so and stayed with me for long time afterwards. ‘Silent Running’ was released in 1971, appeared on TV in the early 1980s, and has rarely been seen since.

Movie Reviews – The Expendables

The Expendables is billed as the greatest action stars ever assembled in one movie, and you can see why. Fans have been salivating from the expendables movie trailers alone, with Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo), Dolph Lundgren (Universal Soldier), Jet Li (Hero), Arnold Schwarzeneggar (Terminator), Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Jason Statham (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) not to mention Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) and Randy Couture (Red Belt), a MMF (Mixed Martial Arts) superstar in his own right, this is a feast for action fans of the last 20 years.

Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman – Three Very Different Superheroes

Batman, Spiderman, and Superman, although all superheroes, are extremely different. Yes, they all save the world from villains, who typically dress as absurdly as the heroes themselves and have odd monikers as well, like The Joker, Green Goblin, and many more. And they are all do-gooders who seem to have no bad habits: they don’t smoke, drink, chase women half their age, or do drugs. But the similarities stop very quickly.

Watch Classic Comedies on Satellite TV

A lot of young people these days aren’t very interested in old black and white films or silent films, but those types of films hold a special importance in our society. Those films were the foundation upon which the Hollywood entertainment industry has been built on, and it’s important to make sure that they don’t disappear from the public memory.
