The Best Ways To Get Your Star Wars Fix

These are great days indeed for Star Wars fans. There used to be a time before the prequels where the only way to go back to the galaxy far far away was to re watch the original trilogy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but there are now lots of different ways to experience Star Wars.

Movie Review – Red Tails (2012) (PG-13)

Red Tails is caught in a fatal tug-of-war between two narrative approaches. On one side, we have serious drama; the film is an historical account of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first ever group of African American fighter pilots to serve the United States military during World War II. On the other side, we have a stylistic homage; it’s a generic war movie rife with threadbare cliches, some lightweight, some melodramatic, all of it dated and hopelessly predictable.

Larry Laverty: An Actor’s Story

Actor Larry Laverty has appeared in over one hundred films and numerous television shows. As a young man, he had no intention of becoming an actor at all. With no firm plans for a career in any field, he drifted from job to job for ten years. He excelled at everything he tried and became drawn to the process of trying his hand at new jobs and learning new skills. Then he gave acting a try, and finally he’d found his calling. This is his story.

The Ides of March

Movie Reviews this week looks at the George Clooney produced and directed The Ides of March, starring George Clooney (Ocean’s 11) and Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson) as Stephen Meyers and Governor Mike Morris respectively. It tells the story of the Democratic primaries to find out who will lead the Democratic party in the soon to be held presidential elections, but as the William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar inspired title hints at, the focus of the movie is on the background incidents involving the media spin doctors, who mainly represent Governor Morris, Stephen Meyers and Paul Zara played by the always impressive Philip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson’s War).

The Top 10 List Of ‘Must Watch’ TV Series For 2012

The following are my top 10 picks for must watch TV Series in 2012. With a plethora of new and returning shows hitting our screens this year any number of series deserved a place on this list:

Katrina Kaif – Beauty With Brains!

Katrina Kaif is new hot property in Bollywood, with successes like Rajneeti, Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye this half British half Kashmiri actress has set Bollywood ablaze with her films. Her first film, boom, did bomb on the box office but her very next films, Namastey London and Welcome were high earning affairs and did well at the box office. This actress also has two popular item numbers to her credit, all of which simply prove her credentials as a good actor.

Interesting Doctor Who Facts

The British science fiction television programme Doctor who which is produced by the BBC is the longest-running science fiction television show in the world. There won’t be many people around the world who haven’t heard of it. The programme is a national institution in the United Kingdom with everyone having their favourite doctor.

Fun Characters in the Harry Potter Movies

The main characters in the movies are: Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe): Harry is the hero in these stories, and is not the usual kind of wizard. When Harry was a baby, his parents were killed by the villainous Lord Voldemort. Because of this, Harry lives and is raised by his mom’s sister Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and Dudley, their son.

Quantum of Solace and the Writers Strike

Like many big budget films the scripts for the James Bond films go through many drafts and can involve a whole string of writers. For the more recent Bond films Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been involved with writing early drafts, with the scripts polished by other writers later on for the shooting script.

Great White Stories (Jaws)

The best-selling novel Jaws published in 1974 primarily focused on a man-eating shark that terrorized a small island town. There was a subplot involving a love affair between two of the main characters, the young scientist and the police chief’s wife.

Movie Review – Underworld: Awakening (2012) (R)

The fact that I liked Underworld: Awakening says more about me than it does about the filmmakers. I have to admit that up front, for I want you to read this review all the way to the end. From my perspective, the first and second chapters of the series were needlessly complicated and nearly impossible to keep pace with. The prequel film, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, was much more palatable, not only because it achieved the right look for the material, but also because it told a much more focused story that explained many of the mysterious plot elements.

What Happened to the Continuity in Quantum of Solace?

Following the success of “Casino Royale” it was decided that the follow up, “Quantum of Solace”, was to be the first true sequel in the history of the James Bond films. The end of Daniel Craig’s first film as 007 finished with him dressed in a Brioni three-piece suit after shooting Mr White in the leg and uttering those immortal words – “Bond, James Bond”.
