Jack Reacher Movie Review

Jack Reacher was a movie that I was looking forward to see. I had enjoyed the trailer and having heard the outcry from Jack Reacher fans around the world about the lack of size Tom Cruise possessed to pull off the 6’6 character from the books. I had never read any of the Jack Reacher novels so I was able to go into this movie with an open mind and make a decision on the character for myself.

Fruitvale Station: Tragedy and Human Error

There is evil in the world, but most tragedies happen because humans make mistakes. The film Fruitvale Station helps us appreciate the scope of what we lose these tragedies, but stops short of examining the very human reasons that they happen.

“Turbo” Is a Burst of Speed and Laughter

The animated movie genre has grown quite a bit in the very recent past, with movies for children and adults alike. Often, as is the case with “Turbo,” the same film can be enjoyed by both grown-ups and kids because screenwriters have been careful to have jokes that appeal to both audiences. “Turbo” offers plenty of belly laughs for all ages, while also imparting some important wisdom for the kids that their parents may be able to take to heart as well.

The “Amish Mafia”, Underage Drinking and Host Liability

A small group of Amish and Mennonite men and women are portrayed as an organized crime family, with “Lebanon Levi” heading the operation and directing its activities. Levi Stoltzfus, the son of an actual Amish Deacon (David Peachey), has a number of henchmen, including Alvin, John and Jolin. In an initial episode, Alan Beiler, (the adopted son of a Lancaster Mennonite family and described by his colleagues on the show as “Schwarz Amish”) was indicated to have been a key associate of Levi’s, but criminal charges landed him in hot water with both the gang and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Blackfish – Documentary Movie Review

“Blackfish” goes behind the scenes at marine parks where orcas have injured and sometimes killed their trainers. Documentary filmmaker Gabriela Cowperthwaite interviews animal experts, former animal trainers, and eye witnesses, uses old film footage and newspaper articles, and examines the courtroom case involving the fatal attack of veteran killer whale trainer Dawn Brancheau by Tilikum, the orca also responsible for the deaths of two other trainers.

The Best Show You’re Not Watching, Part I

A few years ago, I showed up home from an extra-long day at work running inventory to find my fiancee very excited about some strange anime show that was just on Adult Swim. “Anime?” I said. “Man, you know I don’t like anime!” (This is true, and I apologize. I’ve tried; really.)

The Short and Sweet Life of Cory Monteith

Cory Allan Michael Monteith was born in Calgary, Alberta, on May 11, 1982. His father was a military man, and his mother worked as an interior designer. Monteith was the younger of two siblings, and his parents divorced when he was only seven years old.

“HANNAH ARENDT” – A New Film Report

This was a tough movie to take on many levels. First, it was very skewed in the way it gave out two messages; and in one sense it seemed to me to put a partial share of blame on the Jews of Europe for what happened to them during the Holocaust.

Movie Review “Interview” Starring Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller

“Interview” stars Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller in a sexually charged film about media, truth, and celebrity. The movie plays like rush hour traffic on the 405 freeway on the worse of all possible days and in this scenario, the audience becomes lookie-loos drawn into one verbal collision after another.

“RED 2” Features More Jokes and Action Than the Original

The original “RED” was a surprise hit in 2010 that allowed Bruce Willis to play an action hero other than John McClane from the “Die Hard” movies. It also introduced Helen Mirren as an unlikely action heroine who would have stolen the show if it hadn’t been for John Malkovich, who played a crazed conspiracy theorist with one-liners to spare. All three are back, along with several fresh faces in “RED 2,” a sequel that is just as good as, if not better than, the original film it is based on.

July Box Office Winners Offer a Sense of Sequel Deja Vu and Some Scares

The summer season has traditionally been the best-performing time period for the movie industry, but past methods of predicting hits are not so reliable anymore. For instance, “The Lone Ranger” did not do as well as expected, pulling in less than $30 million domestically and $53.7 million worldwide during its premiere weekend.
