Movie Review: Arthur Christmas

“Arthur Christmas” is a 3D movie from Sony Pictures Animation, ready to hit the theaters on November 23, 2011. Sony Pictures Animation studio is famous for their earlier animation feature films like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “The Smurfs”. “Arthur Christmas” is their Christmas extravaganza…

Paranormal Activity 3 Flashes a Badge and Makes Me Nervous

I will let you in on a little secret, Paranormal Activity 3 creeped me out. I got the chance to watch this movie at an advanced screening at the AMC in North Park Mall, an upscale theater in North Dallas, which is interesting since none of my co-viewers acted like they were in an upscale movie.

Remembering Halloween: From Witches, Fairy Tales, The Atomic Age of Godzilla, to Mega Con

Halloween is almost here. I remember the fairy tales, shows such as The Wizard of Oz, Twilight Zone, Godzilla and the Atomic Age, all things that shaped my generation’s creativity and gave us a sense of the magic in life. I remember the witches hat I wore almost every year and how Halloween influenced my life, from the women’s movement to raising my own child. Mega Con now reflects that sense of magical creativity in people today.

Why Your Kids Should Be Into Classic Films Instead of Junk TV Stuff

Do you have kids? If you do, you probably have about the same reaction to half of the junk that’s on television as I do. Households with kids would be enhanced by donating all their TVs to a recycling plant.

Stress Relief – Benefits of Humor in Our Favorite Sitcoms

The most popular sitcoms in recent history make use of a reality-based psychological triangle: a control freak who strives to be the center of his Universe, one or more victims who are the brunt of his jokes and putdowns, and a counterbalancing force – a nemesis – who keeps the control freak in check. These forces unfold differently in each sitcom depending on the unique gifts of the antihero. Good examples include Seinfeld, Frasier and Larry David.

Movie Review of The Big Year

It’s been my experience that the ease of writing a movie review is directly proportional to just how bad the movie is: a really good movie can sometimes take me several days to formulate precisely the right words—-a real stinker seems to bring out all the snarky comments I can muster, at light speed. After seeing ‘The Big Year’, if my theory is correct, I should be able to whip out this sucker in about 10 minutes.

Best Halloween Movies Of All Time

Here is a list of my favorite horror movies of all time. This list is not judging the best or scariest horror movies of all time. These are what I would call the best horror movies to watch around the Halloween season. So don’t expect to see some of my favorite horror movies like Saw and The Blair Witch Project as, in my opinion, they don’t really capture the atmosphere of Halloween. Anyway, feel free to argue, in fact, I welcome it.

Movie Review: Happy Feet Two

If you have seen Happy Feet then you have an idea of what this movie is about. It is a George Miller film that has been computer animated and it is something that the whole family will enjoy. George Miller was the co-director of the very first Happy Feet but he has gone solo on this one.

Movie Review: Logan’s Run

I just watched this movie the other day, I have seen it parodied at various times in my TV watching days but I’d never seen the real deal. Why now? There were a combination of factors that lead to my viewing of Logan’s Run, starting with a conversation I had with some co-workers.

Limitless Review

This week we look at the fantasy drama Limitless. It stars Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) as Eddie Morra, a seemingly lazy author forever trying to complete his book while meandering through life. He happens to come across Vernon (Johnny Whitworth), the brother of his ex Melissa played by the lovely Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies), who introduces him to a whole new drug, which he later calls NZT, that has not been given a license by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). On trying this drug, everything becomes much clearer to Eddie’s mind, his mind is much more alert, and knows how to process information, and to process it at incredible speeds, and he finishes his book that night much to his publisher’s amazement the next day.

Rango Review

Movie reviews this week look at the very enjoyable animation movie, Rango, starring the superb Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands). It also stars Isla Fisher (The Wedding Crashers) as Beans and the lovely AbiGail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) as an adorable and questioning mouse called Priscilla. We meet Rango, a very theatrical chameleon, who spends all of his time alone, but has devised a number of ways to entertain himself (playing roles and making up stories).
