Chain Link, a Review

As a first film by Dylan Reynolds, Chain Link is quite an impressive start. The story is about a recent inmate, Anthony, who tries to rebuild his life with a new job and to reconnect with his son and ex-girlfriend. A character driven film, it is the kind of story I am predisposed to like anyway.

Pretty Ugly People, a Review

Pretty Ugly People is a comedy with heart. Starring Missy Pyle as Lucy, the film is about a woman who having suffered from being the “heavy” friend in college, reunites with her old buddies for a long weekend. After glamorizing her friends for years, she is in for a surprise when she discovers that they all have their less than joyful moments. Melissa McCarthy (Gilmore Girls, Pumpkin, etc) is the caring friend that rounds up the less supportive crew who are too busy in their own lives to want to have to take time out for Lucy.

SXSW Top Films of 2008

Every year the world of film, music and interactive (those online people running the world) converge on Austin. With the hospitality of a small southern town and the cool laid back factor of the southwest, South by Southwest film, interactive, and music festival is a huge industry event with a homey feel. With thousands at the festival, you still manage to make new friends and run into old ones. At the film festival there are hundreds of movies to choose from, so many in fact that it is impossible to see everything while you are here. However, filmgoers try their hardest, standing in long lines 5 or 6 times a day in order to get in to as many films as possible. Some of the films are worth the wait and some are sadly a waste of time. Although I saw only 15 out of the two hundred or so films, here is part one (films 1-7) of what movies to look out for, what might make it to Oxford (someday) and what you can wait to just rent.

Sex in the City Movie, Social Impact & Cultural Effect of Sexually Inept Exploring & Celebrating Sex

Sex in the City penetrates every culture be it on TV or through the movie. Nevertheless the sexually inept celebrating & exploring sex aren’t promised virile prowess, nor sexual pleasure. Sex on screen entertains & allures, but surely does not cure.

Amitabh and Shahrukh in Bhoothnath

After a long gap, ‘Bhoothnath’, one of the most awaited upcoming hindi movies brings together the two supremos – Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Amitabh Bachchan is playing the title role of the movie. The cameo role of Shahrukh Khan also makes the film more exciting!

5 Years of Great Film – Just the Beginning

I admit that though I have lived in Oxford since the commencement of the Oxford Film Festival, I found that I knew very little about its origins or just how much work was required to make the event a success. As Volunteer Coordinator this year, I have had the opportunity to watch the three co-directors diligently work night and day to put the event together. Taking part, even in such a small way, has intrigued me to find out more about what goes into creating a film festival. So, on the eve of the fifth annual Oxford Film Festival, I turned the spotlight on co-directors Michelle Emanuel, Molly Fergusson, and Micah Ginn as they discussed memories of past film fests and what they are looking forward to in the future.

The Differences Between Anime and Cartoon

This article talks about the difference of cartoon and anime, and the definition of each in various categories. Anime, primarily from Japan, shows itself to be a lot deeper and well thought-out in plot and character development than those of cartoons.

The Magic of TV Props

There are few television shows I really enjoy watching and even fewer that I’d ever want a piece of memorabilia of. For that small handful of shows I can’t think of a better way to be a part of its history than by owning a piece of it. Owning a TV prop is more than just having an item that happened to be on a show, it’s taking part in the existence of the show.

Television Production, New Producers Lesson Nine Part Two

Working with new producers is usually always a delight. They are new to the field and they are eager to work. Most of them are happy to do any job on the set and most of them are capable of doing any job. Here are some suggestions that I have for working with new producers.

Doomsday – A Review

Imagine if you will a boy who after just watching Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift and reading Lord of the Rings and Stephen King’s The Stand decides to play Resident Evil on his Playstation. During the game he thinks, wouldn’t it be cool if I just combined all of these elements into a movie? I won’t have to think of anything original, just rehash many of the same scenes! How cool would that be, right?

The Matrix – A Dying Legacy

It’s been almost a decade since the original Matrix movie introduced popular culture to the idea of reality as an illusion. Not that it’s new idea at the time – millenia worth of philosophers have been saying again and again that reality as we know it, reality as we sense it, cannot exactly be thought of and regarded as real.
