No Country For Old Men Review

Some people might not be able to comprehend this magnificent chef-d’oeuvre by the masterful Coen brothers. But after multiple viewings, I can conclude that this is no movie, but an objet d’art.

Ranbir Kapoor – The New Star in Bollywood

Ranbir Kapoor with his stellar performance as the flirty youngster in “Bachna Ae Haseeno” has opened his account on a good note in Bollywood. The son of actors Nitu Singh and Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor began his film career with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film “Saawariya”. He was paired with Sonam Kapoor (Anil Kapoor’s daughter) in the film.

Aliens and Predators – Where Next For the Movie Franchises?

After almost thirty years of Alien action and over twenty years since the Predator first burst onto our screens, these two giants of genre cinema seem to have settled into their own series together, which in turn seems to have created its own genre of double-header movies. Taking its cue from Freddy Vs Jason (a shallow, woeful excuse of a film), the first AVP was released in 2004 to much fanfare and critical disdain. Its sequel, Alien Vs Predator: Requiem followed in 2007, an the credibility of the series seemed to have been dealt another blow thanks to a laughable …

Film Review of Point Blank (1967)

Point Blank is cinema changing shape, pushing the boundaries. Now I truly know why Mr Blonde from Reservoir Dogs utters the words “I bet you’re a big Lee Marvin fan aren’t you?” Neo-noir tough guy cool personified.

Film Review of Thief (1981)

Fans of Mann’s later work should check this one immediately. When I saw it I kicked myself for not having seen it before. Realistic heist scenes and authentic dialogue convinces, like Heat does, that Mann’s protagonists have lived the criminal life. If you like crime movies in general, go out and buy this one now. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Film Review of Layer Cake (2004)

Michael Vaughn’s directorial debut Layer Cake is a very slick, well shot film, filled with twists, turns and flashbacks showing key scenes as the movie jumps forward. Film uses similar music to Scorsese, including Gimme Shelter, and features the now-obligatory face stamping scene, this time set to an evocative Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Daniel Craig is excellent as usual, playing a posh drug dealer who’s had it too good for too long. Suffice to say the plot is a little confusing and lost me at times.

Film Review of Southland Tales (2007)

The dreaded sophomore slump. How do you follow up your first film (Donnie Darko), ‘a multilayered psychological science fiction thriller about time travel, a tangent universe and a giant bunny called Frank!’ A film that won loads of awards, lauded with critical praise and developed a rabid cult fan base! Well, you follow it up with a comedy about the apocalypse naturally!

Film Review of Vantage Point (2008)

Cleverly conceived as ’24’ meets Rashomon, Vantage Point follows the events of an attempt to kill the US President, depicting the same 23 minutes repeatedly, but from different characters perspectives. It’s a neat concept, but by the end of the movie, you might just feel like you’ve seen it all before.

With this assault Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III, codename Archangel, who is the division head was badly wounded.

Tales of an Ancient Empire

It very well might have been 1982 in my living room that evening. Candles radiated a warm and comforting glow that lent a little mystery and magic to my ordinary domicile as the incense sparked to life and I slid the movie into the DVD player. Could it be, after all these years, the miracle that was Netflix has brought home to me one of my most cherished childhood experiences?
