How Long Can Eastenders Continue?

Many Eastenders fans of today may not realise that the show began back on 19 February 1985 and is more than 20 years old. There is a feeling that while the show has a massive following which has at times seemed viewing figures of over 20 million, maybe Eastenders has seen better days, but is this really true?

The Who’s Who of the Seinfeld Cast

The Non-Reality of Reality TV

OK, we know that reality TV sucks us into its non-realistic world at one point or another, and it leaves us with the question of how real is reality TV, if everything seems scripted and edited. Yes, I find myself getting caught up in the lives of others that have opted to have the cameras follow them, but then I become a bit baffled at how something that is clearly edited for the cameras, can be called reality, because the reality of reality is that it is happening for that moment, leaving no room for second chances, it typically, is what it is.

The Decade’s Most Important Film Discloses the Human Condition

“The atrocities in Darfur are terrible, pass the butter.” Why is genocide called “ethnic cleansing”? It is not very clean. It is a dirty business most often perpetrated by soulless (soldiers of fortune) ghouls. The smells of rotting and burned flesh are every where the “cleansing” occurs. There is, after all, no disposal site which will hold volumes of corpses numbering in the hundreds of thousands. These things should not happen on this planet. But we will be blindfolded against what we do not want to see.

Using Editing As Storytelling

Everyone is familiar with the basic structure of Storytelling. The basics are as follows: in the first act, you introduce your characters and the basic conflict; in the second act, you complicate the basic conflict with obstacles that your characters must overcome; and the third act provides the solution. Basic plots are complicated with many added elements to make them more interesting, but of course, we always go back to the same, simple, three act structure.

A Crash Course on Star Wars

Some of us never really got into Star Wars. For the True Believers out there, yes, yes, it sounds crazy. Who doesn’t like Star Wars? But you know, different strokes for different folks. Of course, most of today’s parents grew up in the 1970’s and 1980’s, truly the Star Wars Generation. It’s like our own personal mythology. The story of Luke taking down the Death Star and coming face to face with his own father, it’s a permanent, iconic part of our lives. Not just as a great work of adventure fiction, it goes a little deeper. It touches on something about humanity in general. The way the heroes are always smiling, joking, and laughing, in the face of certain doom, the way Han Solo can still crack wise at Princess Leia seconds before being frozen in carbonite.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Frescoes – A Review of the Agony and the Ecstasy

A review of 16th century events leading to Michelangelo’s fresco painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, as portrayed in the film “The Agony and the Ecstasy”. The 1965 film, directed by Carol Reed and starring Rex Harrison and Charlton Heston, is not a truthful screenplay, as “true story” scripts seldom are; some fallacies and dramatic devices stand out.

Tyson – The Movie – A Must See For Boxing Fans?

‘I have to live at the top of the world or the bottom of the ocean’ – perhaps the truest words ever spoken by ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson in his incredibly honest, new ‘Tyson – The Movie’ DVD which has just been released. I didn’t know exactly what to expect when watching the DVD but as I type I sit here genuinely overthrown by a mix of contrasting emotions…

Bleach Season One Review

When Japanese author Tite Kubo created the popular manga Bleach, he would never have imagined the immense popularity the comic would receive. Bleach is the story of a 15 year old teenager named Ichigo Kurosaki who soon finds himself as a soul reaper, someone who fight evil spirits known as hollows. For many popular anime cartoons, the first season can be a little slow and dull, as they have to introduce the characters and story.

Behind the Scenes of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

When I sit down to watch So You Think You Can Dance the last thing that goes through my mind is what the dancers had to go through to learn the dances for that evening. I simply sit there and watch a great or sometimes not so great performance and then critique it as if I know what I am talking about. What I don’t think about is the hours spent training, the lack of sleep and injuries the dancers went through that week.
